Preparation Phase
Establish driving need Need for change understood throughout organization? Clear goals and objectives? Broad base of support for the change initiative?
Define the approach Scope and approach of change effort clearly defined and understood throughout organization? Success criteria clearly identified and communicated?
Create guiding coalition and required infrastructure Agreement throughout the organization that change effort was/is the” right” thing to do? Adequate resources dedicated for life of project?
Clear program management plan Clearly articulated program plan? Interface points with corporate direction and plans (if applicable) well-defined with dependencies clearly understood? Change Capability Evaluation with appropriate plans for follow-up actions?
Implementation Phase
Action stage Realistic implementation plan? Clear to everyone how implementation actions occur; how monitored; and how course corrections are made?
Progress and feedback Mechanisms for tracking progress clearly defined and understood? Mechanisms in place for real-time feedback (pulse checks), information sharing, emotional “escape valves,” judging effectiveness?
Development phase (many of these activities are iterative throughout project life)
Continuity Plan in place to ensure continuity of change once establishedas the “new order” of the organization? Plan to manage, evolve, and improve the new “state of affairs”?
Layof the land Executive sponsors engaged? Executives remain engaged throughout project? Symptoms of “disengaging” identified and plan to manage if this occurs? »
