So, the year has got off to a flying start – I almost can’t remember landing at the end of last year! It seems everyone I speak to has a real sense of hope about 2010. A big change from last year, isn’t it? I can remember speaking to people this time last year and everyone said what a hard year it would be and, you know what, they were right. Almost everyone just battened down the hatches and, by the end of last year, was very much in survival mode. I can’t help thinking that it was the sentiment this time last year that was self-prophetic, that played some real part in the difficult year we all had. Let’s hope my theory is correct – and that our hopefulness this year also proves self-prophetic!
Speaking of self-prophecy, most of us have self-limiting assumptions that limit our success in life at some level. In fact, I guess part of maturing relates to the way we reduce our self-limiting assumptions and so empower ourselves constantly. And it starts in our heads, our self-talk – it’s our thoughts that give rise to our emotions, and our thoughts and emotions add up to the energy that we put into our actions. So, if we have positive self-talk and positive emotions, we will be throwing positive energy into our actions – and normally succeed, even if it is eventually. Unfortunately, the converse is also true, so that if we assume we can’t do something, our emotions will follow suit and our energy will be restrictive or negative – and voila, we have what we thought we would have!
